Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyukconfirmed Wednesday that he will not play in Thursday's season opener against the Boston Bruins.

Datsyuk separated his shoulder in an exhibition in Pittsburgh last month and was placed on short-term injured reserve.

Datsyuk scored 17 goals and recorded 20 assists last season, but was limited to only 45 regular season games because of a knee injury. The 36-year-old has amassed 272 goals and 532 assists over 12 seasons in Detroit.

The Red Wings went 39-28-15 last season before being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Bruins.
