The AHL will host an outdoor hockey game in Sacramento on Dec. 18, the NHL announced Wednesday.

The game, which will take place at Raley Field, will be between the Stockton Heat and Bakersfield Condors.

Stockton is the AFL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, and Bakersfield is the Edmonton Oilers' affiliate.

“This event will be a special showcase for our Pacific Division in its inaugural season,” AHL president David Andrews said. “We look forward to this celebration of hockey outdoors and to sharing the experience with the terrific hockey fans in Northern California.”

Two games in the NHL's history have taken place outdoors in California.
