Maple Leafs Announce That Kyle Dubas Is Out as GM

The Maple Leafs announced that the team and general manager Kyle Dubas have parted ways after 10 years.

“Kyle fostered a great culture within our dressing room and staff, and consistently pushed to make our team better season over season,” Toronto president Brendan Shanahan said in a statement. “We wish Kyle and his family the best moving forward.”

Dubas has been with the Maple Leafs since 2014, first as assistant general manager and GM of the Toronto Marlies AHL team, then as general manager after the team let Lou Lamoriello go in 2018. He took over as general manager at 32 years-old and has been the youngest GM in the league since 2020.

In Dubas’s time as general manager, Toronto earned over 100 points three times, and was a top 10 team in both COVID-19-shortened seasons. However, the Maple Leafs couldn’t win a playoff series until this year, and the team still lost in the second round to the Panthers 4–1.

With Dubas out, the status of coach Sheldon Keefe remains unclear. Keefe has coached the team for parts of the last four seasons and was Dubas’s only head coach hire as GM.
