NHL and NHLPA 'Return to Play Committee' Is Reportedly Discussing Returning with a 24-Team Format
The NHL-NHLPA Return to Play Committee has reportedly talked throughout the weekend, and is making progress on a 24-team format for the NHL’s season returning.
The Athletic is reporting the proposed 24-team format doesn’t go straight to the playoffs but involves regular season games in some form before-hand.
Once the Return to Play Committee agrees to a format, the NHLPA’s executive board's 31 player reps from each team will need to vote on it for approval.
The NHL, meanwhile, has a 3 P.M. eastern Board of Governors meeting scheduled for Monday. This is a regularly scheduled call the league has had every two weeks since the season was put on pause, but whether or not commissioner Gary Bettman will have a tentative proposal by this time remains unclear.
