BERLIN (AP) Berlin residents will be asked to support the Olympic bid in a referendum if the capital is chosen over Hamburg to be Germany's candidate to stage the 2024 Olympics.

The Berlin Senate on Tuesday set Sept. 13 for a possible referendum.

The German Olympic Committee will decide on March 21 which of the two cities will bid for the games.

About 2.5 million Berlin residents holding German citizenship will be eligible to vote in the referendum.
