New deal won't keep Boston workers from criticizing Olympics

BOSTON (AP) Now there's nothing to keep Boston city workers from complaining about the city's bid for the 2024 Olympics.

Mayor Marty Walsh signed a revised agreement with the USOC on Tuesday. This one didn't have the sections that appeared to prohibit city employees from disparaging the Olympics and the IOC.

When the original document was made public, Walsh called it boilerplate language that would not limit the workers' rights to free speech. But he negotiated a new agreement with the USOC anyway.

The new deal doesn't contain that language.

The four-page joinder agreement also allows for the possibility of a state or municipal referendum.

Boston has been selected as the U.S. bid city. The IOC is expected to make its decision in 2017.
