Report: Gustavo Kuerten will light Olympic cauldron

Gustavo “Guga” Kuerten will light the cauldron at the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics, reports Reuters.

Kuerten, 39, is a former No. 1 ranked tennis player. He was born in Florianopolis, Brazil. 

Kuerten began his professional tennis career in 1995. He won three French Open championships in 1997, 2001 and 2001. He reached the top spot of the world rankings in December 2000.

Kuerten also participated in the Olympics twice. He retired from tennis in 2008.

Kuerten was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012, for whome he serves as a global ambassador.
