It appears the Boston Red Sox may be ready to bring Big Papi back, according to reports.

WEEI Red Sox beat writer Rob Bradford tweets, "FWIW ... Source: #RedSox have made David Ortiz an offer"

Boston Globe Red Sox beat writer adds a bit more detail, tweeting first that the Red Sox "have a meeting tonight with Fern Cuza, David Ortiz's agent," and then adding in a follow-up tweet that, "Cuza also is meeting with the Orioles this evening. Baltimore could have an interest in Ortiz as well."

However, it seems likely that if the Red Sox are interested, other teams are wasting their time.  In a report Monday on BostonHerald.com, John Tomase quotes Ortiz as saying "The Red Sox will always be the first option." For 2011, Ortiz finished with a batting average of .309 with 29 home runs.
