Seattle Mariners outfielder Greg Halman was reportedly stabbed to death in the city of Rotterdam, according to MSNBC. His brother has been arrested in relation to the incident.

"A 24-year-old died this morning in a stabbing and we have arrested the 22-year-old brother of the victim," police told reporters on the scene.

Halman was a star player for the Netherlands international team and was on the cusp of becoming a full-time Major League player for the Mariners. In 2011 he played 35 games for Seattle, posting a .230/.256/.345 hitting line with two home runs. The previous year he had hit 33 home runs and 82 RBI for the club’s Triple-A affiliate. In 2008, Halman was named the Seattle Mariners Minor League player of the Year after he hit 29 home runs and stole 31 bases between two lower levels in the Mariners’ system.
