Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson suffered a high ankle sprain this past Sunday an MRI test revealed today, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Peterson left the game in the first quarter of the Vikings 27-21 loss to the Oakland Raiders.  His left foot was stuck in the turf when he turned over on the ankle attempting to evade a tackle from Raiders safety Michael Huff.

The former Offensive Rookie of the Year will wear a boot over the next few days and could participate in “light football activity” on Friday. Peterson has rushed for 872 yards with 11 touchdowns this season.
