The New Jersey Nets are reportedly prepared to offer a trade to the Orlando Magic for star center Dwight Howard, ESPN reports.
The trade package reportedly would include Nets center and former first round pick Brook Lopez and two future first-round picks. The Nets are looking to acquire Howard before he becomes a free agent July 2012.
There has been speculation over the past few years that Howard, who has struggled to win a championship in Orlando, may leave the Magic when he becomes a free-agent after this coming season.
“There’s more you can do in a bigger place,” Howard told USA Today. “I'm stuck in a tough position because I feel like right now, where I'm at, I've done so much. And I just don't know what else I can do.” NBA teams are not cleared to make roster moves until Dec. 9, however team executives may begin discussion with agents at 9 a.m. EST today. The free agency period will be abbreviated due to the 149-day lockout, and teams have between Dec. 9 and the Christmas Day season openers to complete all deals.
