The Chicago Bears have released a statement on the arrest of wide receiver Sam Hurd for federal drug charges, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Bears statement read:
“We are aware of Sam's arrest and are continuing to gather details surrounding it. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise. We will deal with them appropriately once we have all the information.”
Hurd is accused of attempting to purchase drugs from a North Texas supplier. Hurd reportedly had been negotiating for drugs since his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys and recently resumed negotiations (including face-to-face meetings with an undercover federal agent). Hurd told the dealer he wanted “to purchase five to ten kilos of cocaine, and 1,000 pounds of marijuana, per week,” for distribution Chicago. The Chicago Sun Times reported earlier today that Hurd told the undercover agent that he and a co-conspirator “currently distribute 4 kilograms of cocaine in Chicago area but it wasn't enough.”
