Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith Benches Caleb Hanie In Favor Of Josh McCown

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith has decided to bench Caleb Hanie in favor of Josh McCown, NBC Sports reports.

The Bears have been struggling since losing starting quarterback Jay Cutler to a thumb injury. In Cutler’s absence, the Bears have lost four consecutive games with Hanie under center.

In Hanie’s four starts, he has thrown for 613 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions. Across the span he has posted a passer rating of 41.8.

McCown, who will assume the starting role, has played sparingly over the past three seasons. Over his nine year playing career he has passed for 6,596 yards, 35 touchdowns and 41 interceptions.
