Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder will leave his current post to become the defensive coordinator at Auburn University, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN

The 52-year-old had served as the club’s defensive coordinator since 2008. He had served as the team’s linebackers coach for one year before accepting the coordinator position.

VanGroder has been the architect of one of the better defenses in the NFC in Atlanta over the past four seasons. In 2010, the Falcons allowed the third fewest amount of points in the NFC en route to a 13-3 record. The 10-6 Falcons were eliminated by the New York Giants this weekend after a 24-2 loss at MetLife stadium.
