Leafs' Dion Phaneuf Voted NHL's Most Overrated Player

Captain Dion Phaneuf has led the Toronto Maple Leafs to four straight wins, putting them solidly in contention for a playoff spot in the NHL's Eastern Conference. But the rest of the league still isn't impressed, apparently.

Phaneuf was named the most overrated player in the league, according to a Sports Illustrated poll. He beat out Alex Ovechkin, Scott Gomez, Roberto Luongo and Dany Heatley to earn the dubious honor. Leafs teammate Mike Komisarek came in 10th on the list.

"Players dumb enough to participate in polls designed to crap on fellow NHLPA members are not very bright," Leafs GM Brian Burke told the Toronto Star. "I am thrilled to have both players on my team. And by the way, anyone who wants to tell Dion that in person should fly to Ottawa in about two weeks."

Phaneuf will represent the Leafs at the All-Star Game in the nation's capital on January 29. It's the third selection of his seven-year NHL career.
