NCAA President Mark Emmert would conditionally support a four-team playoff in college football, reports CBS News.
Emmert acknowledged this concept during his annual state of the association speech on Thursday saying, "The notion of having a Final Four approach is probably a sound one.” Emmert however went on to say that moving beyond a four-team system may get messy.
"Moving toward a 16-team playoff is highly problematic because I think that's too much to ask a young man's body to do,” Emmert said. “It's too many games, it intrudes into the school year and, of course, it would probably necessitate a complete end to the bowl system that so many people like now." If these changes are to be implemented, they will not be made until 2014, but there is still no consensus on the matter.
