Donovan McNabb Thinks The Bears Should Have Signed Him

Donovan McNabb told “The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 that he thinks the Chicago Bears should have called him after his release from the Minnesota Vikings. Instead, the Bears went on to lose five of six games after star quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a fractured thumb Nov. 20.

"I thought the Bears would call," McNabb said told the show. "So many people continuously talked about the Mike Martz offense and things of that nature. I personally didn't care about that. If you want to win and win now, you go out and get a better quarterback and you cater your offense to his strengths, and obviously the strengths of your team.

"Obviously it didn't work out well for them. It's unfortunate. I wish things would have worked out, but it didn't. We will see what happens from now on."

McNabb requested to be released by Minnesota shortly after Cutler’s injury, a request which was quickly granted.  He had not played for the Vikings since rookie Christian Ponder took over the starting role for the club in Week 7. In six games with Minnesota this season, the former Pro Bowler posted a 82.9 passer rating while throwing for 1,026 yards and four touchdowns. He led the Vikings to a 1-5 record.

In 2010, McNabb served as the Washington Redskins starting quarterback through the team’s first 14 games before being benched in favor of Rex Grossman. In 2010, McNabb had posted a career-worst 77.1 passer rating and had thrown 15 interceptions. The Redskins traded McNabb to the Vikings following the season.
