The New York Yankees have been in search of a left-handed designated hitter, and sources close to the situation have indicated that ex-Philadelphia Phillies slugger Raul Ibanez is at the top of their list, according to ESPNNewYork.com. The Yankees were also reportedly interested in Johnny Damon, but the report states that Ibanez is desired over the ex-Yankee.

The Yankees saved $13 million when they shipped AJ Burnett to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and they will use that money to sign Ibanez, according to the report. Ibanez, 39, is expected to see the bulk of his action at DH against right-handed pitchers. He hit 24 home runs and drove in 84 runs for the Phillies in 2011.
