Catcher Russell Martin and the New York Yankees discussed a three-year contract extension this offseason, according to Bryan Hoch of Yankees.com. Martin ultimately signed a one-year, $7.5 million contract with the team.

"It was a first start," Martin told Hoch. "I love being here. Just the guys, the organization, the way they handle their business, it's a fun environment."

According to Hoch, the Yankees do not discuss contract extensions in-season. Martin, 29, hit .237 with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs for the Yankees this past season.
