Peyton Manning just became a free agent yesterday, but there's already a timetable to have this whole issue resolved: Manning's decision on his next team is expected within a week, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter.
There are reportedly 12 teams, all in all, reaching out to Manning's representatives -- of the 12, Schefter says the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and New York Jets have already been in contact with them. The Dallas Cowboys are not among the 12.
"I have no idea who wants me, what team wants me, how this process works," Manning told reporters yesterday. "I don't know if it's like college recruiting where you go take visits. I mean, this is all so new to me."
Manning missed the entire 2011 season after a series of neck surgeries; he was cleared this offseason to play again in 2012. The Colts released Manning yesterday, and he will be eligible to sign with a new team as soon as he clears waivers.
