Reds closer Ryan Madson is headed back to Cincinnati to have his elbow injury examined by team medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek, MLB.com reports.
Madson has yet to appear in a single spring training game for the Reds, who signed him to a one-year contract back in January. He was scheduled to make a minor league appearance today, but that was called off.
"Nothing yet," Reds manager Dusty Baker said of Madson. "He won't be analyzed until tomorrow. He went back to Cincinnati. We won't know anything until tomorrow."
Madson is expected to replace Francisco Cordero as the Reds' closer this season. He made 32 saves in 34 tries for the Philadelphia Phillies last year, posting a 2.37 ERA.
