Jeremy Hellickson Taken To Hospital After Blow To Head

Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson was hit in the head by a batted ball during the Detroit Tigers’ batting practice, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Hellickson “went down” and had to be taken to the hospital.

Hellickson was throwing a bullpen session prior to today’s one o’clock start at Comerica Park when he was struck by the batting practice home run. According to reports, several players yelled “heads up,” but Hellickson was hit while he was turning.

In his first start of the season, the 25-year-old allowed just three hits on 8.2 innings of work against the New York Yankees.
