Report: NHL Won’t Rescind Suspension For Nicklas Backstrom

The NHL will not rescind the automatic one-game suspension for Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom for his match penalty at the end of Monday’s game against the Boston Bruins, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger. TSN's Bob McKenzie confirmed the ruling.

At the end of Monday’s game, Backstrom cross-checked Boston Bruins forward Richard Peverley in the head, drawing a match penalty, which results in an automatic one-game suspension, pending an NHL review. The league held a disciplinary hearing for Backstrom on Tuesday.
