The Washington Redskins have released wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, according to a tweet from Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports.

Gaffney, 31, was the Redskins’ leading receiver in 2011, hauling in a career high 68 passes for 947 yards and five touchdowns. It had been rumored that Washington was attempting to trade the wide-out, but had been unsuccessful.

The Redskins signed multiple wide receivers this offseason including Josh Morgan and Pierre Garcon, which made Gaffney expendable. Gaffney made National news in the past month for a now infamous Twitter rant about his wife, which he later claimed was done by someone who hacked his account.
