Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum has informed Carlos Marmol that he is no longer the team’s closer, according to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com.

Bullpen hands James Russel and Rafael Dolis will reportedly serve as closers by committee in his place.

Marmol had posted a 6.23 ERA and just two saves in 12 appearances this year for the Cubs. Last season he recorded 34 saves for Chicago but posted a 4.01 ERA. The hard throwing right hander’s best year in the closer spot was 2010 where he recorded a career-high 38 saves and posted a 2.55 ERA. He also served as an All-Star for Chicago in 2008 as a set-up man.
