Bullpen hands James Russel and Rafael Dolis will reportedly serve as closers by committee in his place.
Marmol had posted a 6.23 ERA and just two saves in 12 appearances this year for the Cubs. Last season he recorded 34 saves for Chicago but posted a 4.01 ERA. The hard throwing right hander’s best year in the closer spot was 2010 where he recorded a career-high 38 saves and posted a 2.55 ERA. He also served as an All-Star for Chicago in 2008 as a set-up man.
