Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on Thursday that two "high-ranking team officials" said that the Chicago Cubs are letting teams know that nearly everyone but righthander Jeff Samardzija is available for the right price.

However, team president Theo Epstein later told Doug Padilla and Bruce Levine of "Starlin Castro is the type of player we're looking to build around. There has been no trade consideration with him, whatsoever."
