As the Brooklyn Nets await word on whether star point guard Deron Williams will stay with the newly-relocated franchise, the New York Daily News reports that Williams will be tempted to head westward by the Phoenix Suns.

According to the report, Williams would become a primary free agent target for the Suns if Steve Nash elects to leave the desert for the New York Knicks or a return to his native country with the Toronto Raptors. Williams has also long been a target for the Dallas Mavericks, who have long had Williams on their radar as an ideal free agent pickup.

However, the Suns are prepared to roll out the red carpet for Williams, according to the unnamed source quoted in the report.

“If they lose Steve, then they plan to go after Deron, hard,” said a person with knowledge of the Suns’ plans. “They know he loves golf and they’re going to try to sell him on going out there.”
