Yankees' Brett Gardner out through All-Star break after another injury setback

New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner had a setback in a rehab game at Single-A Charleston on Friday, according to multiple reports. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Saturday that he does not expect Gardner to return to the Yankees lineup before the All-Star break.

It's a huge blow to the Yankees, who thought they could be getting Gardner back this weekend for the Subway Series against the New York Mets. Just Tuesday, Girardi said it was possible Gardner could have returned this weekend.

"Everything is pretty good right now. It [playing vs. the Mets] is possible," Girardi told reporters Tuesday, according to The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J.

Gardner has been sidelined since mid-April with a right elbow strain after diving for a ball in the outfield. Girardi said Gardner woke up Saturday to a sore elbow. He will see a doctor on Monday.

Gardner was hitting .321 with a .424 on-base percentage in nine games this season before the injury.
