Texas Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando could be headed to the disabled list because of unusual circumstances for an American League pitcher, MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reported Sunday.

Ogando suffered a groin injury running to first during a bunt single in Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Team doctors diagnosed Ogando with a right groin strain. ESPN Dallas reported that he will be re-evaluated on Monday. Ogando was batting because the Rangers were playing in the Giants' National League park.

If Ogando misses significant time, it's another blow for a Rangers pitching staff already reeling with injuries. Ogando was making his first start of the year after 27 other stellar relief appearances. Overall in 2012, he's 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings.

Ogando had pitched three perfect innings before having to leave with the injury.

He was starting Sunday's contest for Derek Holland, who the Rangers put on the disabled list Thursday because of shoulder fatigue. Rangers starter Neftali Feliz is also on the disabled list with a sprained ligament in his throwing elbow, and could be out past the All-Star break.

Ogando bunted along the third-base line in the fourth inning with runners at first and second and one out. No Giants player made a play on the ball.
