Southern Mississippi will play a road game at Arkansas on Sept. 14, 2013, the school announced. Athletic Director Jeff Hammond said that the school will receive a record payout, but declined to get into specifics, but it is expected to be over $1 million.

The Golden Eagles played at South Carolina in 2010 and earned $900,000.

"Playing quality opponents it helps with our national exposure as well as a new regional rivalry that allows our fan base an opportunity to see their team play," Hammond said. "We are not strangers to playing teams in the SEC and now we can add Arkansas to that long list."
