Blue Jays shortstop Omar Vizquel says this will be his final season as a player

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Omar Vizquel told Didier Morais of NESN.com that he will hang up his spikes after the 2012 season, his 24th in the big leagues.

"This will be my last year," Vizquel said in Spanish. "I've enjoyed this game a lot, but I think it's time to pursue a new career as a coach or manager, and hopefully I'll get that opportunity in the future."

Vizquel had said in May that he was "51 percent" sure that he would retire.

Vizquel, who is best known for his time with the Cleveland Indians, has won 11 Gold Gloves and has 2,854 hits entering Tuesday's game against the Boston Red Sox. He is one of just 32 players in baseball history to have seen action in four different decades, having made his debut in 1989.
