Sources tell Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com that free agent reliever Brian Fuentes, who was released by the Oakland A's on Wednesday, is likely to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fuentes had interest from six teams after his release from the A's, no surprise considering the paucity of good lefthanded relievers, and he wanted to play for a winner.
Fuentes was 2-2 with a 6.84 ERA and five saves in 26 appearances for the A's. His best season came in 2009, when he saved 48 games for the Los Angeles Angels.
