Mariners not shopping Ichiro, Felix Hernandez

The Seattle Mariners have the second-worst record in the American League and most would expect them to overhaul their roster with the trade deadline coming up in two weeks.

But Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik isn't about to trade his two biggest commodities, right fielder Ichiro Suzuki and pitcher Felix Hernandez.

“He’s a big part of this team,” Zduriencik said told FoxSports.com about Ichiro. “He’s a franchise player here, and we have phenomenal respect for him.”

Suzuki is hitting .258 with a .286 on-base percentage and .345 slugging percentage, by far the worst season of his career.

Hernandez will be under contract through 2014. And according to Zduriencik, he is not trade bait either. Hernandez is 7-5 with a 2.92 ERA this season and leads the majors in strikeouts.

“He’s going to be a Mariner,” Zduriencik said of Hernandez. “We intend to keep him. I’m telling you, he’s going to be a Mariner.”
