Brooks played in China during the NBA lockout. In 2010-11, he split time between the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns. He averaged 10.7 points and 3.9 assists per game but shot only 37.5 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from behind the three-point line.

Brooks will likely compete for playing time with Isaiah Thomas, who averaged 11.5 points and 4.1 assists per game as a rookie. Jimmer Fredette, the No. 10 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, was also expected to play point guard for the Kings. But Fredette struggled as a rookie, shooting only 38.6 percent from the field as he averaged 7.6 points per game.
