Magic Bird premiere on Broadway

Boston Celtics great and NBA Hall of Famer Larry Bird will be honored with a statue outside his alma mater Indiana State and, according to the artist, it will be bigger than any Magic Johnson statue on the market, as told in a report from Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo! Sports.

Bill Wolfe, the sculptor, said that Bird's statue will be 15-feet-tall because the one of Johnson outside his alma mater Michigan State measures 12-feet in height:

"Knowing the competition they've had over the years, I'm making Larry bigger," Wolfe said with a chuckle. "I figured Larry would appreciate that."

According to the report, the statue will be of Bird shooting a jump shot and will be presented to him at the Hulman Center on campus in fall 2013. Wolfe lived near Indiana State when Bird lost to Johnson in the 1979 NCAA National Title game:

"Of course, now Michigan State is probably going to go back and add to Magic's statue to make it bigger than 15 feet," Wolfe joked. "It will keep escalating."
