Keyon Dooling retires despite rumors of interest in Heat

Keyon Dooling confirmed that he will "never play NBA ball again" after being waived by the Boston Celtics on Sept. 21, and dismissed reports that he is interested in playing with the Miami Heat next season, saying there is "no truth!" to the rumor and that it's "family time," according to Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports.

Dooling's agent confirmed his retirement, saying the Ft. Lauderdale native wants to move on to other interests and spend more time with family:

"Keyon has decided that he has given the NBA 12 good years and that it's time to pursue other interests and spend more time with his family," the statement read. "He will never forget his time with the Boston Celtics."

Tomasson points out that it's unlikely the Celtics, who traded for Dooling in December, would have waived him if there was any chance he would then follow in the footsteps of former Celtics guard Ray Allen and sign with the Heat. He had played with the Heat in 2004-05.

Dooling, 32, re-signed with the Celtics in July, so it's unclear why he made the decision to retire less than two months later. He leaves behind a 12-year NBA career, during which he averaged 7.0 points and 2.2 assists per game. He was also Vice President of the NBA Players Association.
