NHL labor talks to resume Tuesday

The National Hockey League is set to resume talks to end the lockout on Tuesday in New York, reports the Canadian Press.

The league's owners locked out the players on Sept. 15 after failing to reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement.

The sides have agreed to pick up a discussion on the definition of hockey-related revenue that started during three days of meetings at the end of last week.

The division of league revenue isn't expected to be discussed, according to deputy commissioner Bill Daly.

New Jersey senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg sent a letter to Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHL Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr asking them to reach a settlement.

"I believe in my heart, maybe because I'm such a big hockey fan, that they will be playing by Jan. 1," Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky said. "I think the hard part of their deal was the last negotiations (in 2004) of players agreeing to a salary cap."
