Free-agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress will meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday and take a physical, ESPN.com's Adam Schefter reported.

Burress, who played last season with the New York Jets, has remained a free agent through the first half of the NFL season. But a depleted wide receiver corps for the Steelers — with whom Burress started his career — has made the 6-foot-5 Burress a potentially attractive option. Pittsburgh wide receivers Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery are both battling injuries.

Burress has been unable to latch on with a new organization despite a relatively productive season with the Jets. He caught 45 passes for 612 yards and eight touchdowns, his first season after spending two years in jail for possession of an illegal firearm.

But all of the teams in which he has expressed interest — the Panthers in July, the Eagles in July and the Raiders in August — have not panned out. Burress began his career with the Steelers and played five years in the organization before moving on to the New York Giants in 2005.
