Meanwhile, Gary Andersen said he is staying at Utah State, after being mentioned as a candidate at Cal and Colorado.

Dykes has a history in the Pac-12, having served as offensive coordinator at Arizona during Mike Stoop's tenure. The Wildcats' offense thrived under Dykes in 2007-2009.

Dykes has already interviewed for the coaching opening at North Carolina State.

Dykes is 22-15 in three seasons at Louisiana Tech and had the Bulldogs ranked as high as No. 19 during the 2012 season.

In Anderson's fourth season at Utah State, the Aggies (10-2, 6-0 WAC) set single-season records for wins (10) and earned their first outright WAC title since 1936.
