In recognition of the mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., the NFL has asked home teams to observe a moment of silence before this weekend's games.

The moment of silence observing the victims, students, families and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary School, will take place just before the playing of the national anthem. According to authorities, a gunman killed 27 people at the school, 20 of them children ages 5 to 10, before killing himself.
