Chargers' Ryan Mathews out for season with broken left clavicle

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews broke his left clavicle Sunday and will miss the rest of the season, The San Diego Union-Tribune's Michael Gehlken reported.

Mathews had already broken his right clavicle during the preseason. He broke his left clavicle during the second quarter of the Chargers' 31-7 loss Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

The Chargers sit well out of playoff contention headed into the season's final two weeks. They are losers of five of six and eight of 10 games.

Mathews carried the ball 185 times for 685 yards this season and a touchdown. He also caught 36 balls for 244 yards. Mathews rushed four times for 22 yards on Sunday.
