Report: Wisconsin set to hire Utah State's Gary Andersen

Wisconsin is set to hire Utah State's Gary Andersen as the school's next football coach, reports the Wisconsin State Journal.

The report says that the deal is already done, although no financial terms have been reported.

Andersen, 48, had a 26-22 overall record in four seasons at Utah State, taking over a program that went 9-38 the four previous seasons. This season, Utah State won the Western Athletic Conference, finished with an 11-2 record, including a 41-15 blowout victory of Toledo in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 15. Andersen would replace Bret Bielema, who left the school to become the head coach at Arkansas on Dec. 4.

Andersen was reportedly a candidate for coaching openings at Colorado, Kentucky and California.

Multiple sources earlier in the day pointed to Andersen as the leading candidate and indicated a final decision could come quickly.

The sources talked on the condition of anonymity, because the coaching search is ongoing and no official announcement has been made.

Andersen spent five seasons as the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Utah, helping them to a 13-0 record in 2008.
