Two Texas football players at center of sexual assault investigation, suspended for bowl game

Two Texas football players are at the center of a sexual assault investigation by the San Antonio police department, reports KENS, a San Antonio television station.

Texas coach Mack Brown said Friday that the two players were suspended for the Alamo Bowl and sent home for breaking team rules amid the police investigation into the alleged sex assault. Brown refused to name the players involved and did not take any questions concerning the allegations.

Hookem.com reports that the two players that were sent home and suspended from the football team are linebacker Jordan Hicks and backup quarterback Case McCoy. Hicks was not going to play in the Alamo Bowl because of a hip injury and McCoy was set to backup starter David Ash.

Texas (8-4) is town to play Oregon State (9-3) in the bowl game on Saturday night.

According to authorities, they were called to a Holiday Inn in San Antonio at 2:48 a.m. Friday morning to investigate an assault. The team is staying at a different hotel than where the alleged assault took place. The players' names have not been released, no arrests have been made and no charges are pending.

A woman told police she met two UT players out partying overnight and invited them back to her room at the Holiday Inn. She later made the allegations of sexual assault to police. Officers said University of Texas football coaches have been notified of the situation. The players have had initial talks with police and were expected to be further questioned by police sexual assault detectives Friday morning.
