Manager Buck Showalter is expected to receive a three-year contract extension from the Orioles, possibly next week, according to people familiar with the talks in a report by Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Showalter reportedly met with Orioles owner Peter Angelos on Friday to finalize a new contract that will keep him with the club through the 2016 season.

Showalter managed the Orioles to a 93-69 record -- the club's first winning season since 1997 -- and a postseason berth in 2012.

He finished second to the A's Bob Melvin for AL Manager of the Year after guiding the Orioles to a 29-9 record in one-run games and victories in 16 consecutive extra-inning games.

His previous stints as a manager were with the Yankees (1992-1995), Diamondbacks (1998-2000) and Rangers (2003-2006).
