Bill Cowher on CBS: "I have no plans to go back into coaching"

Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher said on CBS's pregame show The NFL Today that he does not plan to return to coaching, contradicting reports earlier this week that he is open to a return.

The 55-year-old has served as a studio analyst for CBS since stepping down from the Steelers in 2007 after 15 seasons in Pittsburgh. He owns a 149-90-1 career record, a 12-9 record in the playoffs, two AFC Championships and one Super Bowl.

On Tuesday, Newsday's Neil Best asked Cowher whether he plans on returning to coach at some point, to which he responded, “Yes.” He changed his stance in remarks at the beginning of the CBS show on Saturday.

A report from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette after Cowher's initial comment said that he has turned down several jobs this offseason and his move back to the sidelines may not come "for another four or five years." Cowher has moved from North Carolina to New York and found "stability" since his wife Kaye's death in July 2010, Dulac wrote.

The Eagles "made approaches" on Cowher early in their coaching search, and have recently shifted their focus to Notre Dame's Brian Kelly, CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora reports.
