Alicia Keys will sing the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XLVII, according to a report from the Associated Press. The NFL has not yet officially announced that Keys will sing the anthem.
The multiple Grammy award-winning R&B artist released her latest album "Girl on Fire" late in 2012, which debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200. Since her 2001 debut Songs in A Minor, Keys has sold over 35 million albums worldwide.
In singing the national anthem on one of the most-watched broadcasts in the country, Keys will join some notable company. Whitney Houston famously won rave reviews for her performance of the anthem in 1991 at Super Bowl XXV - reviews so positive that she would later release a recording of her rendition as a single to benefit soldiers in the then-new Persian Gulf War.
On the other hand, Keys will hope her performance goes a little smoother than Christina Aguilera's, whose famous flubbed line
at Super Bowl XLV in 2011 got her widespread derision.
