Felix Hernandez might have a big payday in store for him.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports is reporting that the Mariners are considering making him a contract extension to the tune of four-years, $100 million to keep the pitcher in Seattle. The deal is not close but the team is reportedly pondering the deal for Hernandez, who still has two years remaining on his contract. Should he receive that kind of money, he would be paid nearly $140 million over a total of six years.

[T]he Mariners are at least weighing a four-year, $100 million proposal, sources said. [I]t is not known whether the Mariners actually have made Hernandez such an offer; one source described the two sides as “dancing” but not deeply engaged.
Hernandez, who turns 27 in April, has a career ERA-plus of 127. By comparison, Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies, who signed a six-year, $144 million extension last summer, has a career ERA-plus of 126. Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke is at 114. In August last season, Hernandez recorded 27 straight outs en route to a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was the 23rd perfect game in MLB history.
