NHL postpones Bruins-Lightning game in Boston due to snow

The NHL postponed Saturday's game between the Bruins and Lightning in Boston due to "the continuing, weather-related State of Emergency" in the area, the league announced.

After Friday's blizzard, the game was originally pushed back from a 1 p.m. start time to 7 p.m., but the league concluded that fans, security and staff could not get to the arena safely. Public transp0rtation service remains suspended, though the Massachusetts state driving ban was set to be lifted at 4 p.m.

The teams are awaiting confirmation from the league on a makeup date for the game, according to CSNNE.com's Joe Haggerty.

The Bruins hope to fly to Buffalo later today to arrive in time for their schedule 7 p.m. game against the Sabres on Sunday, tweets The Boston Globe's Kevin Paul Dupont.
