The Falcons are likely to release veteran running back Michael Turner, according to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter.

A 2008 escalator clause and 2010-11 performance incentives increase Turner’s 2013 base salary from $5.5 million to $6.9 million. The team’s net salary cap gain would be $4.4 million if he's released.

Turner's production fell off in 2012 when he averaged a career-low 3.6 yards per carry while rushing for 800 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/304949519047598080
