Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel doesn't know if he will enter the NFL Draft after his redshift sophomore season.

To be on the safe side, the Heisman Trophy winner is considering doing what other college athletes have done to protect their future: take out disability insurance.

"We're currently in the process of doing that," Manziel said to ESPN.com.  "It's just a precaution. I think there's a lot of players who have done it in the past and you never know what could happen. Football is a dangerous sport, so you kind of have to make sure that you take a precaution in that regard."

Athletes can receive up to $5 million in coverage under the "Exceptional Student-Athlete Disability Insurance Program." The policy helps protect athletes against future loss of earnings if they suffer a disabling injury or illness during their college career.

Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin said that it's a common practice that athletes take out insurance.

"He's not the only player that does that," Sumlin said. "There's plenty of players that do that. I talk to players all the time about different issues in their lives and guys that for whatever reason, feel like they need to protect their interests professionally, they have insurance policies."
